Smith Family History
Descendants of "John" Smith
First Generation
I have been able to trace our Smith family roots as far back as North
and South Carolina in the late 1700's. No first name is found for the
father, so we shall take the name of the oldest son, John, and use it to refer
to the father as well. My line comes through the son, Hiram.
The following information was taken from the One World Tree search
option on the Ancestry.Com website.
1. "John" SMITH was born in North Carolina and married Mary (no surname found). Mary was born in 1780 in South Carolina. They had the following children:
2. Lucy SMITH was born circa 1806 in Georgia.
3. John SMITH was born circa 1808 in Georgia.
4. Edmund SMITH was born circa 1812 in Georgia.
5. Hiram SMITH was born on June 10, 1814 in Georgia and died on June 29, 1889 in Mexia, Alabama.
6. Henry SMITH was born circa 1816 in Alabama.
7. Sarah SMITH (twin) was born circa 1822 in Alabama.
8. Nancy SMITH (twin) was born circa 1822 in Alabama.
According to records found, Lucy, John, Edmund, and Hiram were all born in Georgia while Henry, Sarah, and Nancy were born in Alabama. All of the preceding information was taken from the One World Tree search option on the Ancestry.Com website.
Information found in the 1880 United States census records supports the idea that John, Lucy, and Sarah never married or ever had any children because the census records John Smith as the head of a household with the following members:
- John Smith, age 70, head, born in Ga
- Lucy Smith, age 73, sister, born in Ga
- Sarah Smith, age 50, sister, born in Al
